Ammonia is used as a refrigerant in both compression and absorption systems. Certain characteristics of ammonia, such as high latent heat, low vapor density, chemical stability, and low corrosion to iron parts, promote its use in large industrial equipment.
The pharmaceutical industry uses ammonia in the production of certain products such as sulfa drugs, vitamins and cosmetics.
The petroleum industry uses ammonia to neutralize the acid content of crude oil and protect equipment from corrosion.

Storage
Storage and transportation: A part of commercial ammonia is transported from the manufacturing plant to other places in liquid form.
